France

France

France has an Atlantic and Mediterranean coastline. Mediterranean lifestyles and attitudes to alcohol vary greatly from the UK.

Children regularly drink wine diluted with water at mealtimes, alongside adults drinking wine. The French believe this teaches responsible attitudes to alcohol. At 16 years old French young people can buy low strength alcohol and at 18 years they can buy all forms of alcoholic drinks.

The French drink smaller amounts more often as they believe that this is more responsible drinking behaviour with fewer health risks. There are fewer incidents of alcohol related fights and violence than in Scotland. There are however, higher rates of liver disease and mouth cancer in France than in Scotland.

Did you know it takes approximately 600 grapes to make one bottle of wine?
